Argentine justice upheld on Tuesday the pretrial detention for a man accused of stabbing a young man to death over the alleged theft of a cell phone in the Río Negro city of San Carlos de Bariloche. The accused is Rodrigo Borg, who is being held at the Viedma prison for the simple murder of Tomás Alarcón, a teenager who was killed last Sunday, March 8, at the corner of Elflein and Otto Goedecke streets. During the hearing, the prosecution dismissed the defense's request to review the precautionary measure, arguing that there is no flight risk or obstruction of the investigation. Prosecutor Guillermo Lista emphasized that Borg left the scene without helping the victim and that the weapon used in the attack has not yet been found, while several witnesses still need to be questioned. The prosecution claims that the accused hid a ten-centimeter knife in his clothes and attacked Alarcón by surprise, causing a fatal injury. Tomás was taken to a local hospital in an emergency, where he underwent surgery and died from hypovolemic shock.
